Can I Cancel and Refund a Registered Domain?

Updated over 3 months ago

At Regery, we understand that sometimes your plans can change quickly after registering a domain. However, it’s important to know that once a domain is registered, it cannot be canceled or refunded.

Why Can’t Registered Domains Be Cancelled or Refunded?

When you register a domain (such as example.com), your ownership is instantly recorded in global domain databases maintained by official registries or national authorities (for example, in the case of country-code domains like .DZ). This process is final and irreversible due to several important reasons:

  • Registry and Supplier Policies:
Most domain registries and suppliers do not support cancellations or refunds after a domain registration has been completed. Once processed, the registration is considered final according to their strict contractual terms.

  • Uniqueness and Immediate Allocation:
Each domain is unique. Once it is registered, it is reserved exclusively under your name or organization and cannot simply be "undone."

  • System Automation:
Domain registration and billing systems are fully automated. As soon as a domain registration succeeds, the system considers it complete and irreversible.

  • Deletion Does Not Cancel Fees:
Even if you delete a domain name manually, this action does not cancel the original registration or refund any associated fees. The domain remains registered under your account until it naturally expires unless renewed.

Important Notes

  • Once a domain is registered, it will stay active until its expiration date, regardless of whether it’s used or not.

  • We always recommend double-checking your desired domain name and reviewing our refund terms before confirming a registration.
