What Do Domain Statuses Mean for .RU, .РФ, and .SU?

Main Domain Statuses

  • REGISTERED – The domain is successfully registered and assigned to the administrator but is not yet delegated, meaning it is not technically active.

  • DELEGATED – The domain is connected to DNS servers and is fully functional on the internet. Websites, email, and other services can operate using this domain.

  • UNVERIFIED – This is the default status for newly registered domains. It means the domain owner (individual or organization) has not submitted identity verification documents. This status does not block the domain from functioning and does not require action unless the registrar explicitly requests verification.

  • VERIFIED – The registrant's identity has been confirmed with official documents. This status may be required in legally significant cases or when verification is initiated by the registrar.

  • EXPIRED – The domain registration has expired, but it can still be renewed within the grace period.

  • REVOKED – The domain registration has been canceled, typically due to policy violations.

  • RESERVED – The domain is reserved, for example, by governmental authorities or for future use.

  • NOT DELEGATED – The domain is not linked to DNS servers, so it is not functioning even though it is registered.

Whois Fields Explained

  • DOMAIN – The domain name.

  • PAID-TILL – The expiration date of the domain registration.

  • FREE-DATE – The date the domain will be deleted from the registry.

  • REGISTRAR – The registrar managing the domain.

  • CREATED – The creation date of the domain.

  • NSERVER – The DNS servers the domain is delegated to.

  • STATE – The current domain status (see above).

  • ADMIN-CONTACT – A link to a feedback form to contact the domain administrator.

  • ORG – Indicates the administrator is a legal entity.

  • PERSON – Indicates the administrator is an individual. This information is typically hidden under the label Private Person.

  • DESCR – A brief description of the domain (if provided).

Key Notes

  • The UNVERIFIED status is normal for new domains and does not mean your domain is under review.

  • You only need to submit documents if your registrar explicitly asks for identity verification.

  • To make your domain fully operational, ensure it has the DELEGATED status—this enables website and email functionality.
