How to Check if Hosting is Active for Your Domain

Understanding the status of your hosting is crucial for keeping your website up and running. Even if your domain is registered and appears active, that doesn’t necessarily mean your hosting is working properly. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you verify it.

Step 1: Log in to Your Hosting Provider Account

Start by logging into the account where you purchased your hosting and registered your domain. This might be the same provider or two different services.

Step 2: Go to the Web Hosting Section

Once you're logged in, find the section called Web Hosting. It’s typically located in the main menu or on the dashboard.

Step 3: Select the Subscription

If you have multiple hosting plans or subscriptions, choose the one you're interested in. Click on the “Manage” button.

Step 4: Check if the Domain is Linked

After opening the management page:

  • If you see a blank page with the message “Add domain”, this means that no website is currently linked to this hosting plan. This is common with plans that only allow one website. In this case, your domain is not yet connected to the hosting.

  • If you see a list of domains, check whether the domain you're interested in is listed. This is important if you have a multi-site hosting plan.

Step 5: Check the Domain Management Panel

Even if the domain appears as “active” in your domain panel, this does not automatically confirm that your hosting is active. Hosting may still be suspended due to reasons like exceeded disk space, unpaid invoices, or technical issues.

Step 6: Refresh Your Website to Verify Hosting Status

If your hosting was previously suspended and you’ve already resolved the issue (e.g., paid the invoice), do the following:

  1. Refresh your website in the browser.

  2. Check if the suspension message has disappeared and your site is displaying normally.

Recommendations

  • Keep track of your hosting renewal date and enable auto-renewal if available.

  • Enable provider notifications to avoid unexpected suspensions.

  • Set up regular backups to prevent data loss in case of issues.
