Domain verification process for SSL certificate

Domain verification or so called domain control validation process for SSL certificates is the fastest verification process of the SSL certificates. It takes 3-5 minutes to issue the certificate once verification passed successfully. No paperwork requires, all you need is the access to you domain or website for the domain.

Stage 1 - Domain Verification

Verification by e-mail

Domain verification by e-mail is the simplest method to pass domain ownership verification. SSL certification center sends confirmation e-mail to e-mail address specified in the verification step. The e-mail contains verification code and the link to page where the code should be specified. Just open the link and paste the code to pass domain control verification.

The certification center can send e-mails following addresses only:

If you do not have one of e-mail address above you can either create such e-mail address (if you have own e-mail server) or use e-mail forwarding feature of your domain to forward e-mails to your real e-mail address.

How to use e-mail forwarding from your domain?

For example you have:

You can open your domain administration panel for jstars.com and set e-mail forwarding:

If you do not have e-mail forwarding for your domain, you can transfer your domain to Regery Services and use our e-mail forwarding feature with other popular and unique features that we provide.

Verification by HTTP (file on your website, access via HTTP)

The second simple method to pass domain ownership verification is the verification by file on your site. We provide you verification file, you place it on your site by the path we specify. That is all. The file should be accessible from the internet without redirects by HTTP link.

If you already have SSL installed and worked, please use HTTPS verification method because usually HTTP requests will be redirected to HTTPS or cancelled.

Verification by HTTPS (file on your website, access via HTTPS)

Same simple method as via HTTP to pass domain ownership verification. We provide you verification file, you place it on your site by the path we specify. That is all. The file should be accessible from the internet without redirects by HTTPS link.

If you do not have SSL installed, please use HTTP verification method because HTTPS links will not work.

Verification by DNS CNAME record

Domain control verification by DNS is most complicated method because it requires technical skills about how DNS work and sometimes control panel for domain does not provide direct access to manage DNS host records or access provided is limited.

Changes in the DNS system are not instantaneous and depend on TTL settings (the time in seconds when the changes are updated). The update can take up to 48 hours (172800 seconds)

You can check CNAME record on our NS Lookup page.

If you do not have ability to set CNAME record for your domain, you can transfer your domain to Regery Services and use our DNS management system.

Stage 2 - Brand Validation (sometimes)

In some cases certification center may require manual verification if an order is marked for manual Brand verification. Usually it takes 24-48 hours to check, issue or reject the order.

There are following cases when the order can be manually verified:

  • The order is from countries like North Korea, South Korea, Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq or Iran.

  • Domain name includes famous brand name (yahoo, amazon, etc.) For example, aol-shop.top, amazonmarket.net or twitter.io.

  • Domain name has 'stop words', for example: money, payment, secure, shop, bank, violence and so on.
