How to manage AAAA record
Updated over a week ago

The AAAA record, also known as the A record, is a DNS record that associates a domain name with an IPv6 address. This record type is similar to the A record that associates a domain name with an IPv4 address, but it is intended for IPv6 addresses.

To manage AAAA records in Regery, if your domain is configured through our name servers, you can use the DNS Zone Editor in your Control Panel. For domains hosted on Regery, AAAA records are generated automatically. It is also advisable to consult with your hosting provider to get the exact settings required.

Here's an example of an AAAA record for the domain example.com, which points to an IPv6 address:

example.com. 3600 IN AAAA 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334

In this example:

  • example.com. — the domain name.

  • 3600 — the Time to Live (TTL) in seconds, which indicates how long the record should be cached.

  • IN — indicates the internet class.

  • AAAA — the type of record, indicating an IPv6 address.

  • 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334 — the IPv6 address that the domain name points to.

If you need to remove an AAAA record due to your hosting provider's request or due to SSL or CDN issues, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your account on Regery and navigate to the Domains section.

  2. Locate the desired domain name and select Actions.

  3. In the sidebar, choose DNS Records (Regery).

  4. Use the search bar or scroll through the list to find the AAAA record you are interested in.

  5. Copy the value of the record into a text editor to potentially restore it later if needed.

This process allows you to effectively manage AAAA records for your domain within the Regery system.

How to edit or see AAAA records?

You can also manage your AAAA records in the following ways:

  • Delete AAAA Records: This option allows you to completely remove an existing AAAA record from your DNS settings. This might be necessary if the record is no longer needed or if you're restructuring your network configuration.

  • Edit AAAA Records: This functionality enables you to modify the details of an existing AAAA record, such as changing the IPv6 address to which the domain name is linked. Editing can be useful for updating your settings without removing and re-adding records, thus avoiding potential downtime.

These options help maintain and adjust your DNS settings as your network needs evolve.
